The RT-306 Assault Rifle (shown here in basic infantry configuration) was first developed 2048 in response to an increase in the adoption of nano-tech body armour by Resistance troops. Field testing showed it to be particularly effective in close-quarter urban combat conditions, thanks to an automated 'fire-and-forget' system that allowed troops to assign a round (or multiple rounds) to a particular bogey, based on unique body heat signatures.
Early models experienced overheating issues due to high rates of fire, but this was overcome with new
super-cooling technology introduced in 2049. Currently the standard issue assault rifle for Corporation troops, the RT-306 has unfortunately become popular with Resistance scum, following the hijacking of a shipment of Corporation firearms on its way to the Darling Harbour Waterside Facility.
Approximately 550 RT-306s were stolen in this raid, and are thought to be currently in use by Resistance fighters in the Western suburbs area.
